Micronik in Betacrypt negotiations
Germany's set-top box manufacturer Micronik is negotiating with BetaResearch for a Betacrypt encryption license, for use in embedded DVB receivers. According to Micronik's Managing Director Roland Kotulla, an agreement should be reached within 1 week. Micronik are well-known for its integrated hard-drive set-top boxes and Multi-Access Module (MAM) system, which allows use of up to six encryption modules. Manufacturer Galaxis has already obtained the license to produce single-chip Betacrypt into its set-top boxes. Betacrypt is used by pay-TV broadcaster Premiere World for official use in Austria and Germany. Before the opening of the Betacrypt encryption format to independent manufacturers, it was only possible to watch Premiere World with an official D-Box.
